David Shiffman

Dr. David Shiffman is an interdisciplinary conservation scientist focusing on the conservation of threatened species of sharks. He runs an ocean conservation policy, communications, and science consulting firm in Washington, DC, with clients including US government agencies, the environmental non-profit sector, and universities around the world. He is a leading scholar of public science engagement as well as a practitioner. Dr. Shiffman has given an invited professional lecture about marine biology and ocean conservation on all seven continents, and has spoken to thousands of people around the world about sharks, many as part of his book tour for his book “Why Sharks Matter.” His writings have appeared in National Geographic, the Washington Post, Scientific American, internationally syndicated op-eds, and a monthly column in SCUBA diving magazine, and he is one of the most-followed scientists in the world on social media. He has trained over 2,000 early career scientists how to communicate their science to the public, and looks forward to working with you to train your team.
